Brianna meets Mary Patton in Outlander Book 9, Chapter 21

Brianna makes an error when it comes to buying gunpowder from Mary Patton in Outlander Book 9, Chapter 21. To be honest, I was surprised she didn’t think things through at first.

The chapter sees Jamie and Bree heading to the Powder Branch. It smells like sulfur, which isn’t that surprising considering gunpowder and the time.

As Jamie is talking to two men, Brianna realizes that there is a stern woman who seems to be in charge. She decides that she will talk to the woman instead, and that leads to her getting the gunpowder that she wants. However, this is where she makes a mistake.

She reveals her gold bars in full. This could lead to a lot of people coming to the Ridge after them. Why didn’t she think of this? Does this foreshadow something that’s going to happen? I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the foreshadowing section.

What about this part being used in the TV series? As much as I would love to see the portrayal of Mary Patton on the screen, I don’t think the chapter will be used. I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the adaptation section.

Let’s dive into Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone Chapter 21.
