Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Claire and Jamie waking up to the sound of howling. It’s loud, and it ends up waking up the whole house. They question if it’s something supernatural at first, and then wonder if it’s a wolf. Jamie says that it’s a dog, and he knows the dog. The last he saw of this dog was at its master’s grave.

This dog has followed Jamie all the way to the Ridge, and the poor thing is hungry. She eagerly accepts food, but that’s when Claire sees that she is in pain when chewing. The poor thing has a bone chip stuck between her teeth. At least that should be an easy thing to fix.

The Frasers will take the dog in, and now she needs a name. Fanny talks about Spotty, the dog she remembers petting on the way over to the colonies on the ship. Jamie is the one who chooses a name: Bluebell. He says that the dog followed him, so he needs to name her. He also needs absolution.

As everyone goes to bed, Fanny begs to cuddle with the dog to sleep. It’s clear that she is already attached.
