Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Mandy impatiently waiting for yeast. Jamie interrupts Mandy’s time with Claire sharing that he needs Mandy’s help. He’s made her a seat for the privy so that she doesn’t fall down it if she gets scared.

This makes him think about William, who Mandy has never even heard of. Jamie and Claire discuss whether William is worth mentioning, and Jamie decides he is. It’s not that they’re trying to hide William, but that he wouldn’t usually be someone who would visit. Jamie notes that William will likely want to check in on Fanny, something that Fanny takes a liking to.

Claire leaves for some cream, and when she comes back, a woman in black is talking to Mandy. It’s clear that Mandy doesn’t like this woman, even going as far to threaten to “flush” the woman down the toilet. Of course, this woman has no idea what Mandy means and slaps poor Mandy. The scream from Mandy is enough to get Jamie to come to the rescue.

The woman shouts that the whole family is going to hell before dropping off a package she’s holding and leaving. That package has Jesuit bark, something Claire needs for Lizzie. Roger and Bree had spread the word about Claire needing it. The Frasers realize that they’ve likely just met Mrs. Cunningham, although Mandy calls her the Wicked Witch of the West.
