Roger and Bree talk about roles on the Ridge in Outlander Book 9, Chapter 11

Roger and Brianna get some time together in Outlander Book 9, Chapter 11. They talk about things to come as they see the damage that lightning did.

The chapter starts with us finding out that a cabin burned down due to lightning. This happened while Claire and Jamie were away, and we get this sense that the Ridge is resilient and will make use of items despite their damage. We also get a sense of new life on the Ridge.

This leads to conversation about what’s to come. Brianna wonders if she should start making gunpowder. She could figure it out, and there is a reason to make it. They will need to stock up, and it looks like Bree is going to be the armorer for the Ridge as the Revolutionary War gets closer to them.

I don’t see too much in the way of foreshadowing in this chapter. It’s more about plot development, as the MacKenzies figure out what they will do on the Ridge now that they’re back. They didn’t have to consider this at first. Their focus was on getting back together and getting to some sort of safety. Now they need to figure out what to do next.

I’m not too sure we’ll see the chapter used in full in the series. I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the adaptation section.

Let’s dive into Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone Chapter 11.
