Outlander Season 7, Episode 2 live ratings
This pivotal episode did see a drop in the live ratings. The demo, which is focused on the 18 to 49 year olds, dropped by 50% compared to the premiere episode. The total audience dropped by 22%.
Now, there are a lot of things to consider when looking at the live ratings. The first is that it’s only looking at the linear ratings when the episode airs at 8 p.m. ET on STARZ. If you didn’t watch in that way, you’re not counted at all by Neilsen. That’s just the way it is.
You are still counted by STARZ, though! STARZ will look at the ratings via the app as well as the linear channel.
And the app is where a lot of people are turning to now. Very few will wait for the episodes to air on the linear channel when they can watch whenever they want from midnight ET on the day of release. Those views aren’t being counted in these linear ratings.
Let’s also consider that the show has moved to Friday nights. That is considered the “death slot” for broadcast TV. For the premium cable networks, it’s not as bad. Again, there’s the app to allow people to watch whenever they want. The episodes also air throughout the week so those who miss the first showing can watch when they can.
