Will Buck MacKenzie return to his own time in Outlander?
Buck MacKenzie finally understands what happened to him in Outlander. Now he has to make a choice of staying in the present day or returning home.
Buck has a big choice to make. During Outlander Season 7, Episode 7, he shared his story. He told Roger and Bree how he got from the Battle of Alamance back to Scotland and then how he fell through the stones.
At first, like Claire, he didn’t really understand what had happened. Then he wasn’t sure what to do. When he saw Roger, he decided to follow Roger back to Lallybroch, which is where he’s been for weeks.
Now that he knows what happened, he has to make a choice. Will he choose to return home, or will he stay in the present day?
Buck’s date of death is the year of travel in Outlander
There is something that will play on Buck’s mind. His date of death is recorded as 1778. That’s the same year that Buck traveled through the stones. This could mean one of two things. Buck’s family could presume him dead, so recorded his date as 1778, or he could make his way back through the stones only to die soon after.
Does Buck really want to go through the stones and meet his death? Would it be better to allow his family to believe that he is dead so that Morag could remarry and stand a better chance of a happier life? Does Buck even want to risk traveling through the stones? He like many others would now understand some of the dangers as there is a lot of pain and confusion when traveling.
The current situation at Lallybroch is likely to set Buck’s mind. He formed a bond with the children, and it’s clear that he has formed a bond with Roger, too. Could he choose to travel through the stones to wherever Roger needs to go to save Jemmy? It would be safer with two men, especially if they head back to 1778 anyway, so Buck could end up remaining in his own time.
