Why isn’t Outlander on tonight? (August 4)
Outlander Season 7 is taking a break. There isn’t a new episode of the series on tonight, but why has STARZ done this to us?
It’s bad news for Outlander fans. There isn’t a new episode of the series tonight. This comes off the back of that huge cliffhanger that saw Jemmy taken by Rob Cameron and potentially taken through time.
Why would STARZ do something like this? There is only one episode of Season 7A left. We then have a long break for the second half of this season. Does it really make a lot of sense to have this break? Well, it’s not the first time that STARZ has done this.
There’s always a week break in Outlander
STARZ always gives us a week break at some point during the season. It’s usually just after or just before a big episode. In Season 2, the break came just before the Season 2 finale. During Season 5, the break was just after the Battle of Alamance.
These week breaks are for business. They encourage people to keep their subscription for just a little bit longer. There is a chance that people renewed their STARZ subscription a couple of weeks before Outlander Season 7 premiered. This would mean the finale airing on August 4 would have likely caught the end of the second month. Some would cancel straight away knowing there were no more new episodes of the time travel drama.
By pushing the finale by a week, it means those people will need to keep the subscription going for one more month. Of course, we know the subscription is going to be worth it when Men in Kilts runs for the next six weeks, anyway. Not everyone would stick around for that docuseries, though.
The week break is usually a time for STARZ to offer an Outlander marathon. That’s working a little differently this year. Instead, we’re getting the Men in Kilts Season 1 marathon to get us ready for the Season 2 premiere next week.
STARZ is a business, though. It needs to do things that make sense for itself from a business point of view. Delaying the Outlander Season 7A finale by a week does make some sense. While you may not like it, are you really going to skip the finale?
