Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Young Ian and Rachel, who are further up the trail than the others. In the previous chapter, Ian had come across Mrs. Sylvie, who were looking after Herman and Vermin, the two “boys” who Ian found a safe place for. Ian wonders whether Rachel is mad about that.

Rachel does make him worry at first, but it’s all for play. The two end up going off into the woods for some fun, although Ian is worried about what it will do to the baby. Rachel points out that their lives are in God’s hands. It’s clear that she doesn’t believe they will do anything—if it’s God’s will, then that’s what must be.

When they get back to the road, the others have caught up. It’s clear that Jenny knows what the two have been up to. She’s not angry, though. She is just amused. She remembers what it’s like to be young and in love. I think she’s just happy that Ian found someone good for him.

Ian notes to Rachel that Claire has a look on her face that is unsettling. It’s clear that something happened back at the Trading Post, but she won’t talk about it. He is curious about it.
