Ian and Rachel enjoy some time together in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 140

Young Ian and Rachel are a little ahead of the others in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 140. They certainly use that to their advantage.

We see all the stages of relationships in the books. Young Ian and Rachel are still early on in theirs. While they are already married and expecting their first child, it’s clear that they are in love and still young. They want fun and adventure, and that’s exactly what they get in the chapter.

We also see how they communicate with each other. We know from Claire and Jamie that communication is clear. This was the type of love Ian wanted, and it looks like it’s the one that he gets.

It doesn’t really foreshadow too much, I don’t think. There isn’t really any plot development, either, except for everything that happened in the previous chapter.

Will it be used in the TV series? While I would love to see some lightheartedness and connection between Ian and Rachel, I have a feeling this whole section is going to be skipped over in the TV series. I’ll get to that in the adaptation section of the post.

Let’s dive into Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 140.
