Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Claire, Jenny, Ian, Rachel, and Germain heading to the Beardsley Trading Post. It’s been eight years since Claire has seen it, and she’s impressed by how much it’s grown. I think this tells us how the post has been cared for since Aaron Beardsley’s death. Alicia Beardsley certainly has a fortune on her hands.

Jenny is impressed with everything, especially when the Cherokee ride in. Jenny wants to trade for some goats, while Claire wants some ginseng. We can see what the women are planning on doing when they get back to the Ridge. It’s time for their simple lives to move forward as easily as possible.

While there, Claire spots a man who is walking slowly. She immediately recognizes him as the man who raped her that night when she was abducted by Lionel Brown’s men. Of course, she second-guesses herself because all the men were supposed to have been killed, but Claire’s body tells her that this is the same man.

I do question this a little, mostly based on experience. It’s not just the person, but something about their look or their attitude. I can get triggered by certain phrases or just the look of someone who is similar to attackers of the past. That doesn’t mean it’s the same person. However, Claire is certain that because she’s reacted the way she did, it means that it is the same man.

She doesn’t confront him. Instead, she goes back to the Ridge with everyone else and tries to shake it all off. Germain helps with him lighthearted comments.
