When Brianna got locked in the tunnel, she saw what seemed to be a portal in Outlander Season 7, Episode 5. What was it, and what does it mean?

As Bree tried to prove herself during her first day at work, the men decided to haze her. They trapped her in the dam at the end of the work day, leaving her to fend for herself.

Fortunately, she remained calm. She was able to get the lights on and make her way through the tunnel. Along the way, she saw what looked like a portal. It was loud and disorientated her, but it clearly didn’t send her through time. What was that blue portal, and what does it mean in the world of Outlander?

Brianna saw a ley line in Outlander

We can look at the books for the answer to this, although we’re sure to see it explained in the show. Bree didn’t bring it up to Roger on screen, so we could see this being an off-screen conversation. Alternatively, Bree may have been so focused on the men at work that she forgot all about what seemed to be a portal for a while.

What was it, though? It’s a ley line. These are lines that lead to the different portals around the world. This one likely leads straight to the portal at Craigh na Dun, although it’s not clear where it leads from. Is there another portal in Scotland or somewhere in England? It’s certainly possible!

Bree may have thought it was a portal, though. We could see her physically clear her mind and run through it. She didn’t want to be pulled through time, especially where she was. If she went into the past, she’d end up trapped in rock on the other side! However, it looks like it’s just a ley line and it could open the door to discussions of how time travel works.
