Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Claire and Jamie with their traveling companions make it to the trail of Fraser’s Ridge. This marks a point of relief for all of them. They are almost there, and it seems like they can finally relax. They know that they will get back home.

Claire is so much happier. She’s been happier the closer and closer they get to the Ridge. I can understand that feeling. While I love being away from home, there’s a sense of happiness and calm when I know I’m on the way to my spot—my refuge.

As they get to the trail, they see two people come toward them. It’s Joseph Weymss and his grandson Rodney. For those who have forgotten up to this point, Joseph is Lizzie’s father. Rodney is the child of Lizzie and one of the Beardsley twins. It turns out that Lizzie is still married to both of them and she’s expecting her fourth child.

Rodney has never really seen Jamie and Claire. He’s in awe of Himself, who he expected to be a giant, and he questions whether Claire is a conjure woman. She confirms that she is. It’s a term that she is growing to like. I think it’s a sign that she’s ready to come into her powers. Now just for her hair to turn white.

Joseph had been walking the trail every day in the hope of seeing Jamie and everyone. Rodney looks over to Young Ian leading Rachel on Clarence and views them as Joseph and the Virgin Mary. We can see who is teaching him things just from that.

We find out that Amy Higgins has baked to make sure that Claire and Jamie are welcomed when they return. Jamie points out to Claire that he always promised he would bring her back home. It’s going to be different, but it’s home.

That’s confirmed when Adso the cat turns up. He drops a rat at Claire’s feet as if to say “welcome home,” and after that tearful goodbye in Outlander Season 7, Episode 3, this made me tear up a little. Adso hasn’t forgotten.
