Caution: This post contains spoilers for Outlander Season 7, Episode 3.
When the first promo for Outlander Season 7 came out, we knew there would be a funeral. Claire would sing “Ava Maria” as the coffin was brought to the burial ground. What we didn’t know was who that funeral would be for, or why Claire was even singing.
In the promo for Outlander Season 7, Episode 3, we found out that the funeral would happen. Was it for someone who died in Episode 2, or would we face another death in Episode 3?
Who was the funeral for in Outlander Season 7, Episode 3?
It wasn’t Allan or Donner, who both died during the second episode of the season. Fortunately, it also wasn’t Mandy, who is happy and well in the future. Instead, we faced another loss in the new episode.
It turned out that the Bugs had stored some gold at the house. That gold was mentioned in Outlander Season 6 as Aunt Jocasta had been rambling about it. Well, it turns out the Bugs stole it and they were trying to get it out of the rubble. Dressed as a man, everyone believed that Murdina was Arch. When she became a threat, Young Ian killed her.
He didn’t want to kill her. He felt bad for this, and we see that he now has to live with the threat of Arch wanting revenge. However, he had to kill her to protect the people around him.
Arch turned to Claire to ask her to sing at the funeral. Despite them wanting the gold, it does look like the Bugs were somewhat loyal to the Frasers. After all, the Frasers gave them a home and work when nobody else would. Claire obliged in a somber moment of the series.
