Outlander Book Club: Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 124 breakdown
Just the Outlander chapter
The chapter starts with Jamie and Claire talking about Clarence. Honestly, I vote that he goes with them!
Jamie goes off to talk to Mr. Phillips while Claire looks around at items that have been left from the fire. The printing press has been completely destroyed. That’s not too bad when you consider there is Bonnie, Jamie’s printing press. This does come to thoughts of Fergus, who hasn’t shown much in the way of tears and sadness since Henri-Christian.
There are some items that can be salvaged. Claire wonders how they’ll get it wherever they’re going. There are a lot of concerns right now.
Do Jamie and Claire go to the Ridge while Fergus and Marsali head to Wilmington? Should Jamie and Claire stay with Marsali and Fergus for now? It’s clear that Germain is struggling a lot. Ian and Rachel are keeping him busy, but distraction only helps so much.
Then there’s the fact that Marsali is pregnant. She’ll need some help. Jenny would probably go, but Marsali won’t want to ask. Marsali knows that Jenny will want to spend as much time with Ian as possible. As she looks through everything and really thinks things through, Claire reasons that the Ridge can wait. They all need to stay together for now.
At the end of the chapter, Jamie comes to Claire with a bag of letters Mr. Phillips gave them. They were letters Marsali had made. Her and Fergus’s share of the gold has been turned into letters and dipped in what looks to be lead. It made the letters look like normal printing letters to everyone else, but this solves all their money problems right now.
