It was supposed to be a happy time for Roger in Outlander Season 7, Episode 2. Instead, he’s thrown into fear and loss in the episode.

Roger didn’t get to be there for Jemmy’s birth. He didn’t even know if Jemmy was his biologically until recently. That was different for Mandy’s birth. He got to be there and immediately knew that this was his daughter.

Of course, the MacKenzies don’t get to be happy for too long. He and Bree find out that their daughter has a fatal heart defect, and they need to travel through time to fix it. There are some standout moments in this episode, and here’s a look at Roger’s top three moments.

Top Roger moments in Outlander Season 7, Episode 2

This list is in order of the moments happening. It’s so hard to rank them for this episode.

1. Roger naming his daughter

At the start of the episode, Roger is there for the delivery of his daughter. He’s the one who comes up with the name. It’s clear that originally, they were going to go with Marjorie after Roger’s mother, but that changes. She’ll be called Amanda.

Roger points out that in Latin the name means “worthy of love.” That’s certainly something this bundle of joy is worthy of.

2. Refusing to allow Bree to travel alone

When Bree and Roger learn that Mandy has a heart defect, they fear the worst. It means their daughter will die. However, there is a small glimmer of hope. They could go to the future for surgery.

Roger is scared. He doesn’t even know if Mandy can travel. Can any of them travel? They’ve already tried it once and it’s so dangerous with four of them. Bree decides that she and Mandy can go alone, but Roger refuses to let that happen. They are a family and they will go as a family.

3. His goodbye with Claire

While I loved his goodbye with Jamie to see how far the two men have come in their relationship, it’s the goodbye with Claire that stands out for me. Claire had always felt a connection to Roger, and part of that would have been Reverend Wakefield. However, there was also the fact that Claire has always sensed things to come.

She and Roger have been connected in many ways over the years. As someone else from the future who didn’t necessarily initially choose to stay in the past, Roger has always turned to Claire for help and advice. They don’t have each other moving forward.
