Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Claire in a dream. She’s dreaming of Frank and he’s smoking. As she wakes, she thinks about how good it was to see Frank again but then she realizes that she shouldn’t have been able to smell anything. That’s when she realizes that the print shop is on fire.

Claire and Jamie rush around to wake everyone. When they get to the loft, they realize that Germain and Henri-Christian aren’t there. Everyone gets out and that’s when they see Germain and Henri-Christian on the roof. There are a lot of people outside telling them to jump so they can catch them.

Germain decides to grab a rope. He will lower them both down. Heartbreakingly, Henri-Christian loses his grip and falls to the ground. He goes past all the arms in the air and is killed as he hits the ground. I still cry when we get to this chapter of the story.

There are a few moments that make me angry, though. The first is everyone telling them to jump and yet not being ready to catch Henri-Christian. What would have happened if both boys had jumped? The second was Jamie shouting “no” at Germain. Is that something that led to some distraction? Wouldn’t it have been better to just be ready to catch them both?
