Outlander Book Club: Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 117 breakdown
Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter
This doesn’t foreshadow too much. I guess seeing Benedict Arnold’s empathy for this man does foreshadow a little of him switching sides to the Crown. He doesn’t like what the Sons of Liberty have done. To be honest, I don’t condone any of that regardless of the side of a war that you’re on. Violence is never the answer.
However, there’s nothing important for Claire and Jamie’s story. It’s really just a filler chapter to give us a look at the severity of the situation when it comes to the Revolutionary War.
Adapting the Written in My Own Heart’s Blood chapter
I don’t really expect to see this chapter used in the TV series. There have been a lot of moments of Claire saving lives that haven’t been used. Some have been changed to help with combining stories to make them cohesive with the time that is available. I have a feeling there won’t be much need for this and we’ll see Claire and Jamie back on their way to the Ridge much sooner than we do in the book.
This chapter just doesn’t offer much for the two of them. We need to see their story pushed forward, and that means little need for these filler moments.
