John and Hal discuss finding the truth about Ben in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 114

As we know, Hal and John learned that Ben has been killed. That’s not something either of them believe, and they let Dottie know that in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 114.

Hal is the one going into enemy territory to find out what happened to Ben. He has mixed feelings about this, especially when it comes to meeting a turncoat British officer when he does head into Washington’s Army territory.

Dottie shares that she will go with them. She wants to find Ben’s widow, but that’s when she learns that her brother may not be dead after all. Does she believe her uncle and father, though?

This chapter certainly foreshadows the things to come for Ben’s storyline. It’s pretty clear that he’s not dead. Don’t trust Richardson. I think it also foreshadows more for Richardson.

Will it be used in the TV series, though? I’m in two minds about whether the Grey storyline will be used at all, and I’ll get to that in the adaptation section of this post.
