Outlander Book Club: Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 112 breakdown
Just the Outlander chapter
The chapter starts with everyone finding Henri-Christian. He was playing with the Phipps children, a Jewish family that is more accepting of Henri-Christian than anyone else. I simply adore that HC has some friends in the area, though. He’s going to lose that by his family moving.
With that worry over, Marsali and Jenny can get on with laundry while Claire goes out to buy fish for supper. That’s when she finds Fergus and Jamie, who have been getting quotes for shipping everything back to North Carolina. Claire is excited as it means that there are some concrete plans to return home. It’s interesting how Claire has never really had a home. Jamie is her home. Yet the Ridge has become that place for her.
When Germain comes looking for Fergus to deal with a man who is threatening Marsali, Claire and Jamie can talk in private. Costs of the printing business are going up as the British are leaving, but that’s not the only reason Fergus is thinking of moving back to North Carolina. He at least wants Germain out.
Percy sent a detailed letter as to why Fergus is the heir to a large fortune. Fergus doesn’t care about that, but Percy clearly wants Fergus to get this money. Should something happen to Fergus, that fortune would go to Germain, and that puts Germain at risk as he’s so young.
Fergus hasn’t told Marsali any of this just yet. When Claire tells Jamie about the threat Marsali received, Jamie wants to see the letter. He wants to compare handwriting as it could have been Percy—or someone linked to Percy.
