Outlander Book Club: Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 101 breakdown
Just the Outlander chapter
Roger and Buck wait until nightfall and then go to save Jerry from the Quartons. They have to do it once the Quartons have gone to bed. Jerry rattles of his name and service number, which makes Roger grin. This is a man speaking Roger’s language.
Jerry realizes that the two don’t come from the area—or the time. Buck and Roger don’t tell Jerry anything about themselves or where they come from. All they do is get Jerry out of the barn, which does alert the dogs. The three men have to get to the stones that Jerry came through with the dogs and the Quartons on their tails.
Roger gives Jerry his garnet and tells Jerry to think about his wife Marjorie. Jerry wants to know how Roger knows about Marjorie and his son, but Roger doesn’t share what he knows. As Buck runs off, Roger tells Jerry that he loves him and then joins Buck.
Why would Roger tell Jerry that? Well, this is the only chance he’ll get. He knows that Jerry doesn’t make it through. Well, what he doesn’t know is that Jerry did make it through and ended up saving Roger’s life in the Blitz. But Roger is right in that this is the only chance he’ll get to tell his father how he feels.
