Roger meets his father in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 101

With the dog tags and the “whip,” it was clear that Roger and Jerry would end up coming across each other. That happens in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 101.

It’s a relatively short chapter. I do wish that we could see more of Roger with his father, considering how big this part has been for Roger. Yet, Roger said everything that he felt he needed to. Poor Jerry had no idea who Roger was, though, and I would have loved for Jerry to find that out.

The chapter does bring up a thought of Brianna. It’s all about the garnet that Roger had purchased to be able to travel through the stones himself. He needs to sacrifice that for his father, and what he doesn’t realize is that it saves him, too.

There isn’t much in the way of foreshadowing in this chapter. The short story about Jerry came before this book, so we already knew what was to come—something even Roger didn’t know about. This is more about getting Jerry from the past to the point in the short story.

Will it be used in the TV series? I’m in two minds. I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the adaptation section.

Let’s dive into Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 101.
