Which book is Outlander Season 7, Part 1 based on?
Outlander Season 7, Part 1 premieres on Friday, June 16. Still hoping to read ahead before it starts? Here’s the book it’s likely based on.
Droughtlander is nearly over. The first eight episodes of Outlander Season 7 will air this summer, and it couldn’t come soon enough. With the storyline being split in two, we got a promo that focuses on those first seven episodes.
While we can’t say for certain, looking at the promo, it looks like the majority of storylines are going to come from two books in the series. The first is A Breath of Snow and Ashes, which makes sense with how the sixth season ended. What will the other book be, and what about those characters from the past that we’ve seen announced?
Outlander Season 7 is likely based on two of the books
When Outlander Season 6 was initially written, there were going to be 12 episodes. Then the pandemic hit and Caitriona Balfe found out she was pregnant. Instead of doing 12 episodes, the season was cut to eight with the other four being tacked onto Season 7.
The season was supposed to cover A Breath of Snow and Ashes, but there wasn’t the time to complete it. So we knew that some of this book would be picked up at the start of Season 7. It might not take up the first four episodes, though. Rewrites happened to ensure things would work out properly.
After that, the story is set to move on to An Echo in the Bone, which is the seventh book. There are a few clips from the promo that hint that this is going to be the case. We have William’s introduction, the Hunters’ arrival, and the Siege of Fort Ticonderoga. All of these things happened in the seventh book.
Yes, there are signs that storylines from Book 8 will eventually be included in Outlander Season 7. However, none of the cast members mentioned popped up in the promo for the first part of the story. That suggests that they’ll be in the second half, which is set to air in 2024.
