Outlander Book Club: Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 100 breakdown
Just the Outlander chapter
The chapter starts with Roger and Buck finding people who can help them find some standing stones in the area. There is still a language barrier, but they finally find someone who sends his son off to help them. This is when they learn about items found near the stones and a stranger.
Well, it turns out that Mr. Hacffurthe found “es whip” about a week ago. This is a whip, which turns out to be part of an RAF flier harness. It’s clear that this has to be linked to Jerry, so Roger pushes for more.
When Buck shows the boy the RAF dog tags, the boy tries to snatch them. Buck prevents that from happening and threatens to break the boy’s neck if he tries anything. He wants information about the stranger. Roger is annoyed at the threat of violence, but it gets the job done.
The boy explains that a strangely dressed man turned up at the farm of the Wads, an antisocial clan who took the man’s possessions and threw him into the ravine. While the family bragged about this, nobody bothered to look for the man. However, Mr. Quarton’s cowmen found the man stealing a pie, so Mr. Quarton held him in captivity until figuring out what to do with him. There’s a chance the stranger would be maimed or killed.
Roger needs to know more. The boy gives some vague directions to the Quarton’s farm and then leaves. The two hurry to get there, but the sun is setting. Buck wants to get there before the boy can say anything about how he was treated, but Roger is concerned about the sun setting and not giving them the direction they need.
The chapter ends with a humorous moment. Buck wonders if the Quartons will have a dog, clearly thinking back to the previous chapter he was in. Roger assures him that everyone has a dog.
