Outlander fans know James Fleet as Reverend Wakefield. Well, he took on another period drama role in Queen Charlotte on Netflix.

James Fleet is in one episode of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, but that’s not the only time he’s appeared in the universe. He was in the main series, and there is a good chance that he will reprise his role in the future.

We’re used to seeing him take on a guiding role in Outlander. That’s not the case in Queen Charlotte. He plays someone who actually has a connection to the Revolutionary War in Outlander, although these two shows are not set in the same universe. Who does James Fleet play?

James Fleet in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story

Fleet takes on the role of King George III in Bridgerton. That’s the role he reprises in the prequel spin-off series. This prequel is a limited series, but there is a chance that George will show up again in the main series.

Yes, King George III is very important in the world of Outlander right now, although he’s not mentioned or seen. He is the current King of Britain, and it’s him who has raised all the taxes. He is the reason for the Revolutionary War. Okay, there are other people involved, but King George started it.

You’ll also remember him from Hamilton. Jonathan Groff played the role in the original Broadway production, which you can see on Disney+.

King George III is known as Mad King George. We see signs of that in Queen Charlotte early on. In fact, George knows that he is struggling mentally and is trying to hide it. Sadly, it wasn’t something that could be hidden. Queen Charlotte never turned her back on her husband. The vows “in sickness and in health” were certainly upheld by her, who would become his caregiver until the end of her life in 1818 (two years before George’s death). We see that love story in the limited series.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is available to stream on Netflix.
