Outlander Book Club: Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 94 breakdown
Just the Outlander chapter
The chapter starts with the wedding day. Rachel and Dottie remain dressed plainly, and it turns out that Jenny made Rachel’s dress. I love that! Denny is also dressed modestly, and it’s the guests that mostly gain the attention. John and Hal are there in their full uniform, while Jamie is there in his kilt.
Then Ian walks in dressed as a Mohawk. Rollo is by his side.
Reverend Figg spends some time explaining Quaker marriages to those who haven’t seen them before, and Rachel chimes in when the mood suits her. Then they get married, starting with Denny and Dottie first. Hal even sobs a little at his daughter getting married.
With that over, it’s time for Rachel and Ian. Ian removes his wampum beads after mentioning his first marriage to Emily. This is a sign of Ian letting go of the past and focusing on what’s to come in the future. I love the symbolism of his actions, as he makes it clear that he is committing himself to Rachel.
Then the two get married.
