Outlander Book Club: Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 89 breakdown
Just the Outlander chapter
The chapter starts with William in the woods looking for Jane and Fanny. He realizes that he should have grabbed a wagon. He’d need one to get the girls back. He also realizes that he hasn’t seen them in 10 miles. They can’t have come this way.
As he walks back the way he came, he realizes that Colenzo is left-handed. That could have led to him pointing in the opposite direction. I’m not sure where he gets that from, but it gets him to where Jane and Fanny are anyway.
They’re being attacked by the Hessians who William had come across earlier. He breaks off a branch to use as a club, but there’s no need. A wagon coming down the road startles the Hessians and they run off. The wagon is being driven by Rachel, who is in search of Ian.
Ian is there. It turns out he’s suffering from an infection in his wounds. Meanwhile, Jane explains that Fanny was being sold off to Harkness. Jane ended up killing Harkness, and William initially struggles to comprehend that she would murder in cold blood. However, we all have to remember that Harkness is a bad man and Jane was doing it to protect her sister.
Rachel agrees to take the girls to safety as they can’t go to Philadelphia or back to the Army. They can go to where Friends are. William will take Ian to Denny to help with his injuries.
