Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Jamie running through the events that have happened. Lafayette has been delivering items as a way to help Jamie through this, and Washington has sent his sympathies and hope. Washington doesn’t seem all that mad that Jamie has resigned. One thing Jamie does learn is that Ian is still missing, and now he’s worried. He asks Ian Murray to help guide Ian back.

Jamie is still thinking about what to do if Claire doesn’t pull through. He decides he isn’t going to kill himself. This is the ultimate sin, but also Jamie notes that a lot of people are still counting on him. So, he decides that living without Claire is Purgatory for him.

Claire decides that is the time to wake up. Her fever has broken, and she’s made the decision not to die. She doesn’t want to leave Jamie on his own.

She does need to pee, though. Jamie helps her and he ends up holding a candle to the urine so Claire can check on it. Claire says that she’ll check on it in the morning, but Jamie knows that Claire won’t be able to sleep without knowing. I love that he just knows Claire so well.

With that the two go to bed. Claire thinks about how male elephants will try to mate with female elephants when the females are injured. Jamie questions if this is something Claire wants, but she makes it clear that’s not the case at all. It’s just something that she thinks of.

Now Claire wants to go back home. That’s what Jamie wants too, but where is home?
