John and Hal discuss Benjamin Grey in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 86

We pick back up with John, Hal, and William in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 86. This is a chance to learn a little more of what’s been going on in the war.

I don’t overly like the chapter for those who haven’t read the Lord John Grey novellas. There are details in it that assume you’re all caught up with the Grey family. Sure, there are some explanations as to who Benjamin Grey is in this chapter, but I think all of this would work better as another accompanying novella more than being part of the eighth book.

That’s just a minor opinion, though. As for the storyline, it does continue a few story points for John. Richardson and Percy are both brought up again, and they are important for some upcoming storylines. Whether they will all be used in the TV series or not is another thing, but I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the adaptation section of the post.

There is definitely some foreshadowing in this chapter, and I’m going to break down everything that I’ve seen.
