Outlander Book Club: Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 85 breakdown
Just the Outlander chapter
The chapter starts with Jamie sitting by Claire’s side. He is trying to keep her cool with water, but his main focus is on the blood flow. He wants to see it stop, and that leads to him thinking about blood. He thinks about things that Claire has told him, including blood transfusions and different blood types.
Then he thinks about someone who cut her wrists. That’s the way Claire said she thought about killing herself when she believed Jamie to be dead. Jamie doesn’t think that’s what he’ll do if Claire dies, but he’s not too sure.
Now he realizes that the bleeding has stopped. Claire isn’t out of the woods yet, though. The fever has started.
Meanwhile, we catch up with Ian trying to get back to Rachel. As he thinks about what he needs to tell her about killing the Native American, he stops in his tracks. He’s sure that Rachel will leave him. He decides to cover himself with pine needles, and that’s when he thinks about the time that she said she would walk by him in his journey.
Will she still do that when he tells her the truth? I just love that Ian isn’t thinking of holding anything back. He wants to be honest with Rachel. He needs her to know every part of him.
