Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with John and Ian being brought out to Captain Andre. Andre wants a few details from John, including whether Ian is John’s prisoner or not. He decides to say that Ian is related to him by marriage.

Ian attacks an Indian scout who is with the British Army. He decides to let the scout live, but that scout taunts him. It leads to Ian killing the man, and everyone just watches. Nobody cares about the loss of this life, and it’s not because people are too tired. The British just don’t care about their Indian scouts.

After that, Ian looks like he’s talking to himself but he’s talking to the ghost of his father. There is a discussion about whether killing personally is different to killing in battle or when butchers kill animals. All Ian wants to do now is to get back to Rachel and Jamie. He needs them, and it seems that he’s allowed to just walk away.

Meanwhile, William and John reunite. It is tense, but William admits that he’s happy that John survived.

John and Hal also reunite, giving Hal a chance to catch up on what happened to John and to share his own run-in with Claire’s medical skills. Hal really wants to know how John and Claire ended up marrying. There are a few other details he wants to know. All in good time. We don’t need to see this play out. After all, we know the story.
