Outlander Book Club: Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 79 breakdown
Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter
Things are not looking good for Lee, but that’s not the foreshadowing in the chapter. We know what happens to Lee from history. We know that Lee was the reason the Battle of Monmouth started to become a disaster for the Continental Army until Washington stepped up.
I think this foreshadows Jamie resigning from his commission. He’s done with the mess of what’s going on. As much as he respects Washington, there are many others he doesn’t respect. One of the reasons he didn’t mind getting the General position is that he could resign from it later. It’s clear that he is still planning that.
Adapting the Written in My Own Heart’s Blood chapter
I suspect that this chapter will be used in the TV series. We need to see why this battle started to go south at first. We need to see that Lee was part of the problem. I think we also need to see Ian get shot. That’s going to lead to people worrying about Ian, and it’s going to give Claire something big to do. I wonder if Claire will get memories of Murtagh at the Battle of Alamance, something unique to the TV series.
We do get to see the big battles, and I suspect that this is going to be used in Outlander Season 7 based on some images recently released. I could see Books 6–8 combined for Season 7 to help tell the important parts of the story in the short time that is available left in the series.
