Outlander Season 7 spoilers: Will the Battle of Monmouth take place?
New images for Outlander Season 7 suggest that the Battle of Monmouth could take place. What would this mean for the story?
We are getting closer and closer to the Outlander Season 7 premiere. That means some promotional material is being released, and the latest has been four images of Claire and Jamie. It’s clear they are on some sort of battlefield, and we can look at the books to get an idea of the battle that this could be.
It’s likely that this is the Battle of Monmouth, one of the biggest and most famous battles in the Revolutionary War. However, it’s worth noting that this battle takes place in the eighth book of the series rather than the seventh book. What could this mean for the series telling Claire and Jamie’s story?
Is the Battle of Monmouth in Outlander Season 7?
The Battle of Monmouth took place during 1778. George Washington and his Continental Army went up against Henry Clinton and the British Army. It was the last battle of the Philadelphia campaign, and it originally began badly thanks to Lee’s mistakes. Washington came in to help.
The battle takes place during Written in My Own Heart’s Blood. We see multiple characters throughout the battle, including Jamie leading his men, Claire treating patients, and Young Ian being involved as a scout. I can’t remember there being a big battle in An Echo in the Bone for the images from the series to connect to, so it does suggest that some of Book 8 is going to be pulled into the seventh season.
We already expected some of Book 8 to be used considering we know Dougal, Geillis, and Brian are all part of the story.
It makes sense to include one of the bigger battles of the Revolutionary War. After all, we love seeing Jamie in action and it gives us a chance to see Claire in her element—even though nobody would like to admit that battlefield surgery is her element. We’ve had big battles in Season 2 and Season 5, so it is time for another one before the end of the series.
If a lot of Book 8 is used, it could mean there is a plan to include storylines from Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone. It could also just mean that the timelines of the remaining A Breath of Snow and Ashes storylines and those from Echo and MOBY are going to be combined and placed out of order for book fans.
