Outlander Book Club: Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 75 breakdown
Just the Outlander chapter
The chapter starts with Jamie. He and his men head to the cider orchard where the cannon went off. Sadly, Mr. Craddock was killed in front of his two sons. Jamie gets them to say goodbye and then run off.
Jamie and his men couldn’t get to the cannon with snipers protecting it. Jamie looks around at the damage, seeing that one of his lieutenants has been killed and Jamie has been caught, with his cheek now bleeding. He can’t see some of the men he wants to find, but he does notice that Reverend Woodsworth is doing a good job leading the men.
The men manage to get away, with Jamie jumping on his horse. The idea is to get to the other side of the battle to continue on.
This is when we see Jamie think about the field they’re going across. He feels for the potato farmer.
Back with Claire, she is working on the injured. She knows that most of them only have 15 minutes before shock will set in or blood loss will make it harder to save them.
Private Adams comes up with a bullet through his arm, including an artery. Adams’s friend has fainted. Claire gets to work on treating the men just as Denny comes out of the church angry at the incompetence of the regimental surgeons. I love that he came straight to Claire to help her knowing that they would get more done together.
However, some of the men are drunk. They know Claire has brandy and they want it. Denny does what he can to protect Claire, but then some of the men pay attention to Dottie instead. Claire is forced to shoot her pistol into the air to scare some of the men off. This also gets the attention of people in the church.
There’s no time to deal with the shocked people. More men are approaching who need Claire and Denny’s help. They need to focus on that.
