Claire finds herself barred from church in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 74

We get another chapter split between different characters. Claire takes up most of the time in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 74 as she finds herself prevented from going into a church.

That would seem strange at first. It’s not like she’s on the Ridge surrounded by people who don’t trust or like her. Instead, she’s providing her skills for the wounded soldiers. However, not everyone believes a woman can do the job, and Captain Leckie is one of those people. It’s clear that Denny doesn’t not agree to this.

Meanwhile, we see Jamie with his troops. While some of the men have jobs to do, some of them are awaiting word from either Lafayette or General Lee, who has now taken command. Ian is sent off with his own task again.

Then we end up with a little bit of focus on John, who is in the middle of the battle with the threat of being shot from both sides.

I don’t get much in the way of foreshadowing in this chapter. It’s mostly about setting the stage for the battle to come. I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the foreshadowing section.

I could see some of this chapter used in the TV series. I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the adaptation section.

Let’s dive into Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 74.
