Outlander Book Club: Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 73 breakdown
Just the Outlander chapter
The chapter starts with Fergus and Germain watching over Lord John Grey. All John wants is some peace, but Fergus and Germain need to keep an eye on him until someone comes for John to question him or throw him in prison.
However, Fergus and Germain are having their own little argument. Germain wants to be a part of the upcoming battle, reminding Fergus that he was with Jamie at Prestonpans. However, Fergus points out that at that point, Fergus was not a son of Jamie. He was Jamie’s servant. I find it funny that everyone avoids the fact that Fergus still wasn’t supposed to go into the actual battle and didn’t follow those orders.
Fergus is Germain’s father. He’s not going to let something happen to his son, and we know Marsali would be angry if Germain did go in and got hurt or worse.
While this happens, Percy comes in to talk to Fergus. However, Fergus still doesn’t want to talk to the man. He doesn’t care about where he comes from. All that matters is right now. Fergus and Germain leave, but Germain persuades Fergus to go back to keep an eye on John.
When they get back from the tent, they see John escaping from under the canvas and Percy walking out of the front of the tent. John is able to get away, and that’s when he thinks about the things Percy has said. Captain Richardson is an American spy and not to be trusted. He is trying to get William to force Hal and John’s hand. What does this all mean? All John knows right now is that he needs to get back to William.
