Outlander Book Club: Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 72 breakdown
Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter
There isn’t too much in the way of foreshadowing. A scout’s job is to get a lay of the land and see where the enemy is. That’s exactly what Ian is doing, so his story is really just pushing the plot forward.
William is becoming the part of a scout even though that wasn’t supposed to be his job. I guess the chapter may foreshadow more trouble for William, but it’s more about plot development for him. Diana needs to keep him in the story somehow.
Adapting the Written in My Own Heart’s Blood chapter
It’s hard to say if this chapter will be used in the TV series. I don’t think there’s going to be enough time to show everything that happens in the lead-up to the battle. In fact, for the TV show, this could be a little boring. I could see the show skipping over the scenes and just having Ian and William telling people what they’ve seen. This will be the best way to save time.
There’s just too much going on in the story for the various characters at this point. While the book can focus just on Jamie, Claire, Ian, John, and William at this point, the TV show is going to need to include Roger and Bree here and there.
