Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Claire and Jamie both preparing for battle. While Ian is excited about it, these two still have the memories of Culloden. They’ll have many other memories of battles, too. They’re not excited for what’s to come.

Jamie notes that he has prayed to Ian Murray to look out for Young Ian. We also find out that he’s worried that he doesn’t have his chosen and loyal men following him this time. However, when he does go to see his men he’s leading into battle, they light up to see him. They clearly see his leadership abilities or have heard of them.

Claire remains with Lord John Grey. She wants to understand why John would confess everything to Jamie. Does John not know Jamie at all? On the contrary, John knew how Jamie would react, but he needed to share the truth. I guess there’s so much respect for the friendship that he needed to be honest, and I can respect that.

Claire wants to know how John thinks the battle will go. That’s when John realizes that Claire likely knows. He shares how annoyed he is with his brother for not just reenlisting himself but reenlisting John. Things could have been avoided had that not happened.

Claire uses this time to catch John up on things that happened with Hal. This leads to some laughter as John thinks of Hal trying to prevent Dottie from marrying Denny. With that, it’s time for the two of them to say goodbye, and they both realize that this could be the last time they see each other.
