Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

This chapter seems to foreshadow something for Rollo for me. We know that Rollo’s time is coming. He’s getting old, and it’s clear that Ian would prefer him to rest than come into battle where he could die. When Ian realizes that Rollo isn’t there, he doesn’t go into a panic. He doesn’t feel too bad about his four-legged friend being left behind.

Remember how much he missed Rollo when he was in Scotland? Remember how much he didn’t want to leave the dog behind? Well, now, I get this sense that Ian realizes that he’s going to have a life without Rollo soon, and he’s preparing for that, even if he doesn’t realize it.

Adapting the Written in My Own Heart’s Blood chapter

I don’t expect to see this chapter used in the TV series. There just isn’t the time for it, and it’s not like the chapter is all that important for the overall story. We may see William follow Andre’s orders, but that’s going to be very quick in whatever the story is for that part of the series.

For Ian’s part, we may see a montage with other bits of preparation for everyone going into battle. That’s all I can really see happening.
