Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Claire and Jamie catching up with each other after a long day. It turns out that Claire did eventually get to Jamie’s other men after treating Lord John Grey. It looks like she wasn’t going to make that possible when John, Germain, and Percy all came into the story.

Claire has taken some of the men out of the battle due to injuries. Now it’s time for Claire and Jamie to eat and relax.

Jamie wants some time that’s just with Claire. They head down to the riverbank, which is, of course, full of mosquitoes. They all go after Jamie, and we’re reminded that the mosquitoes don’t go after Claire. This has been discussed before—it’s to do with how bugs and people have adapted over time. Claire thinks that her blood doesn’t taste right to the insects of today.

After spreading the ointment to keep the mosquitoes away all over him, the two manage to make love. There are also some comments about where mosquitoes won’t bite, although Claire doesn’t explain why that is.

At the end, Claire starts to sleep. Jamie can’t let himself fall asleep. That will mean the dreams come, and they’re getting worse. He tells Claire not to worry, though. He’s with Claire, and that’s all he wants.
