Just the Outlander chapter

Jamie is now in charge of 10 militia. That’s around 300 men, and he doesn’t have this sort of experience. I love that we actually see Jamie look at preparing and figuring out in his head what he’s going to do.

He does get a staff to help deal with the men, though. Jamie makes it clear that his wife will be the surgeon. Of course he’d have Claire there. She knows more than the many other surgeons around, and she has the battlefield experience. Even if the others don’t respect his decision, it’s made.

Captain Woodsworth comes to talk to Jamie about a particular man: Bertram Armstrong. This was the name Lord John Grey went under when he was pretending to be a patriot. Now there is a rumor going around that he is a government spy, and that could cause problems. Jamie tries to get John out of the situation, but he knows that he will need to do more.

It’s even worse when Woodsworth brings up Bobby Higgins, the boy who was with Bert. Jamie has not choice but to confirm that he is “Bobby’s” grandfather, and that is sure to lead to more questions. It means that Jamie knows Bert, but how?

Jamie has to get out of this conversation. He simply thanks Woodsworth for bringing up so much and then walks away. Now he needs to figure out what to do with John, and not just from any of the other higher-ups. He needs to protect John from those who believe he is a government spy.
