We get to know a little more about Nathanial Greene in this chapter. He is a former Quaker, and that’s why Jamie wants to talk to him. He wants to understand more about Quaker marriages.

Well, it turns out that Quaker marriages and the Quaker lifestyle is difficult. Nothing is really private, and it sounds like Ian and Rachel may run into some trouble because of that. It also turns out that Nathanial’s wife is very much like Claire: not wanting to leave her husband to go to battle on his own.

Nathanial’s wife didn’t treat patients, though. She had young children she wanted to take around with her to by with her husband. We also find out that Nathanial is the Quartermaster and his job is to find places for the militia to stay when they’re on the move. That’s what he is doing while talking to Jamie.

While on the trip around the area, they run into Ian and an injured Rollo. Jamie bandages up Rollo’s leg to get him to Claire, while Ian stays to talk to Greene to report on the findings while scouting the British Army.
