Outlander Book Club: Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 56 breakdown
Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter
The chapter seems to foreshadow problems with Captain Richardson. We know that he is up to something. William knows that he is up to something. It’s hard to tell if Randall is telling the truth, but Richardson is a threat to Claire for some reason. All this seems to be pointing at something.
I don’t get a sense that we’ve finished this in the books just yet. A lot comes out in Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, but it’s hard to tell at which points he’s telling the truth and what the outcome is going to be. I’m going to let you read Bees to get an idea of the whole story and try to figure him out fully.
Adapting the Written in My Own Heart’s Blood chapter
I want to see this chapter used in the show, mostly because it gives us more insight into William’s feelings. He has felt abandoned for much of his life, and that is coming up now as he realizes that the groom he knew as Mac is his father.
It’s not going to be easy to have the chapter on its own, though. These are internal thoughts, and we know TV shows aren’t great for internalized thoughts. We need to see William be able to talk to someone about this. Could it be Rachel? Jane? There are a few options.
