Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Claire taking stock of her and Jamie’s accommodation and then being unable to sleep. She thinks about Culloden, which is where she stumbles and Denny finds her. He takes her to his medical tent, where there is a large woman suffering from indigestion.

Claire realizes that it’s not indigestion at all. It’s labor, but Mrs. Peabody is drunk and collapses from that. Claire needs to stay with her, except she wants to be with Jamie.

As Denny goes off to find Mr. Peabody, Dottie stays with Claire to ask her about intercourse and preventing pregnancy. Their conversations start off about the female reproductive system and Claire uses the comatose Mrs. Peabody to explain things. Their conversation is cut off when Ian and Rachel arrive.

Jamie is looking for Claire. Claire makes it clear that she can’t leave until Denny returns, so Ian goes off in search for Denny and Rachel stays. She wants to know how to prevent pregnancy, too. It is an important topic, and while Claire sometimes seems a little weary, she’s just tired. She wants to make sure women have the knowledge they need.

Finally, Denny gets back with Mr. Peabody. Jamie and Ian are also back. Jamie takes Claire away to allow the others to look after Mrs. Peabody, and he shares that he is now in charge of 10 companies of mixed militia.
