Outlander Book Club: Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 53 breakdown
Just the Outlander chapter
The chapter starts with William taking his horse off the road to drink. The horse decides to wade into the stream, and William decides that he wants to do that too. This isn’t becoming of an officer, but he is willing to take the risk.
While he is in the stream, the voice of a woman calling his name catches his attention. He sees Arabella-Jane, the prostitute he was with a few chapters ago. She is with her sister, Frances, and she tells Frances to curtsy to William.
Of course, William is embarrassed at the state the women have found him in, and he even ends up thinking of the time Lord John Grey teased him for falling into the privy. It turns out that they were looking for him. Jane shares that she’s been trying to avoid Captain Harkness, who returned to the brothel. She would like William to keep them safe so that they can get to New York and relocate.
William agrees to meet them at the surgeon’s tent the next evening. He needs time to think of a way to save them.
