Outlander Book Club: Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 43 breakdown
Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter
This chapter certainly foreshadows things to come for Roger and Jerry. It’s clear that Jerry didn’t die at sea. Something happened to him, and we’re starting to see that he went through the stones. This is something that Frank figured out, if I remember rightly.
The chapter sets up for Roger finding out more about his dad. I love this part of the story as it’s closure that I think Roger never even fully realized that he needed.
Adapting the Written in My Own Heart’s Blood chapter
I want to see this chapter used in the TV series. However, I know that’s only relevant if future chapters with Jerry come up in the show. I hope they do.
We need to learn more about Roger’s father and the fact that he time-traveled and didn’t die in the war. We need to see Roger get that sort of closure, and I really want to see Brian’s look as he sees these items that simply don’t belong in his time period.
Overall, it may not seem that important to the plot. Getting closure and seeing history happen in real-time (with Black Jack Randall) is important for Roger’s character development.
