Andrew Gower has another project coming up very soon. The Winter King has just finished filming, but who will he play in the series?
If you’re looking to follow the Outlander actors in other projects, Andrew Gower is certainly one of the actors to look out for. Recently, we’ve had a chance to watch him in You and Carnival Row. He has another project that has just wrapped filming.
Gower will star in The Winter King, a historical fiction series based on a book series by Bernard Cornwell. This is the same author as the Sharpe and The Last Kingdom series, both of which became successful TV shows.
What is The Winter King about?
The TV series is a retelling of the Arthurian legend. It takes place in Britain in the Post-Roman Dark Age, at a time when Arthur has been banished and Merlin as disappeared. The Saxons are invading, and a child-king currently rules the kingdom.
In this world, Lancelot isn’t the trusted knight and Guinevere isn’t the wife of the king. They are vain, unpopular, and scheming individuals. Of course, their scheming could lead to them landing places in Court once Arthur makes it back.
The series is told by an elderly monk, long after Arthur’s death. Is it the real story?
Who is Andrew Gower in The Winter King?
Gower will take on the role of Sansum. This is a chance to see him in a very different role to the ones we’ve seen him in before. Sansum is loosely based on Samson of Dol, the Cornish saint who was a Catholic priest and then a Bishop.
He is described as being unsympathetic and intriguing. Color us intrigued!
