There’s a new voice to the Outlander Season 7 opening credits. Who is singing the song, and what does this change reflect for the show?

Every season, there’s a change to the “Skye Boat Song” in the Outlander title credits. Season 7 is seeing another change, and this time the biggest change is the person singing.

There have been times when someone else has sung the opening credits. Season 5 had a choir, while we’ve heard men singing a couple of the opening credits for episodes here and there. This is the first time it looks like the change from Raya Yarbrough singing the modified lyrics to the “Skye Boat Song.”

Sinéad O’Connor performs in the Outlander Season 7 opening credits

Irish singer-songwriter Sinéad O’Connor is singing the opening credits. It’s unclear who made the decision to switch from Yarbrough to O’Connor, but it does look like a creative one to mark the turn of the story. After all, we’ll see the Revolutionary War take place.

It sounds like O’Connor crafted the new version of the opening credits. It is very similar to the original opening credits but with the Revolutionary War sounds to it compared to the Scottish sounds. That’s not surprising as the show’s credits have always reflected where Claire and Jamie are in the story.

O’Connor has been in the business since 1987 when her debut album The Lion and the Cobra was released. Her second album, I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got, is arguably her biggest released, which included the single Nothing Compares 2 U, which was written by Prince. She has released 10 studio albums in total and her memoir Rememberings came out in 2021.

After her memoir, she shared that she was stepping back from producing new music, but then she decided that wasn’t going to be the case after all. She did convert to Islam in 2018 and changed her name to Shuhada’ Sadaqat, but she still performs under her birth name.
