Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Claire in a beautiful garden. She is in her element, surrounded by plants and people who speak herbs and botany. After everything that’s happened, Claire needs the peace and I love that she finds it.

She decides to pick some herbs for medicinal purposes and then she remembers to order some herbs for Denny. That’s when she finds out that the owners are Quakers, so she asks about Quaker marriages. After all, there may be two for her to attend. I just love that she has the time to think about everyone else she cares about.

During the chapter, Jamie shows up. The two have the chance to discuss everything that happened between Claire and John, giving Jamie a chance to understand Claire’s side of it. This is when Jamie shares all about Mary McNab and what that meant to him at the time. John was Claire’s way of surviving without Jamie around, fully believing him to be dead.

Jamie also realizes that John was his lifeline at Helwater. Maybe Jamie owes him a lot more, but that doesn’t stop Jamie from being angry right now.

The chapter ends with the two of them getting intimate in a shed nearby. It’s a passionate scene, almost like the two of them are reconnecting after years of separation. It’s not been that long, but I think Claire believing Jamie to be dead made the separation all the more harder than previous ones.
