Outlander Book Club: Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 23 breakdown

Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Jamie getting back to Chestnut Street, only to find that Claire isn’t there. After explaining to a very confused Mrs. Figg that he is Claire’s husband, he goes to find Jenny is aiming a gun at Hal. Jenny blames Hal for everything that happened to her family, including the death of Ian. As the officer in charge of those who looted Lallybroch and kept arresting Ian, I think her anger is well-placed.

Jamie wants to leave for Claire, but he needs to stay and defuse the situation. It also doesn’t help that Denny shows up after getting Claire’s letter. Hal is not happy to see Denny considering everything with Dottie, and he ends up having another asthma attack. Denny helps with that situation, while also explaining that he and Dottie helped John escape from the militia camp.

Denny also shares that John’s injuries weren’t serious. John should be back any day now.

Ian and Rachel also turn up, and we get a happy reunion between Ian and Jenny. This is my favorite part of the whole chapter.
