Droughtlander suggestions: Catch up on Carnival Row
Droughtlander continues throughout February 2023, but this is a good month for Carnival Row fans. Spend time catching up on it ready for Season 2.
If you have not yet watched Carnival Row, you’ll want to use some Droughtlander time to watch it. The series is set in a Victorian-period-like time, but involves a lot of fantastical creatures. By using the creatures as the outcasts, we get a story that resonates with the real world.
For Outlander fans, there are some special treats as a number of actors from the series pop up. That includes Andrew Gower, who has been spotted in some of the images for the second season. He plays Ezra Spurnrose and was left at the end of the first season watching his sister flee the city with her faun lover.
What is Carnival Row about?
The series is set in a fantasy world that looks a lot like Victorian London. There are some major advancements and changes, and there are creatures known as the fae. The fae come from all sorts of background and have a variety of abilities, but they all have one thing in common: they’re outcasts.
It’s rare for one of the fae to have a wealthy presence in society. By the end of the first season, they’re pushed out of the city onto Carnival Row after events lead to the humans growing all the more scared of them. It won’t be long before a revolution takes place.
Why watch Carnival Row during Droughtlander
Now is a good time to catch up on the series. It has been more than three years since the first season arrived on Prime Video, and the second season will finally drop on Feb. 17. It will air weekly, so you’ve got plenty of time to enjoy it. The second season is confirmed as the last, and it sounds like the ending was made to suit that news.
The series brings up a lot of topics from the world of Outlander despite the fantasy elements. We get these storylines of oppression and fear. Humans push the fae out simply because they are fae instead of getting to know who they are. When the fae are killed, nobody really cares, and it resonates with the past of how anybody who wasn’t white was looked down on. Even now, we have these very real problems in society.
Plus, we have a couple of love stories playing out. Lead characters Philo and Vignette have this story of love but were separated for years. In fact, Philo believed his love to have died for a while and tried to move on. Then there’s Ezra’s sister, Imogen, and the faun Agreus. Imogen spends the first season realizing that the fae aren’t the evil creatures she’s always been told they are, and that leads to a forbidden love story.
